3 Steps to Success- Respect The Process

Dreaming is one thing but achieving those dreams is another. Everyone has a dream of doing, having, or being something, but there are steps you must take to turn that dream to into an accomplishment. As the saying goes, 'nothing worth having comes easy', but there is more to the story; it is way more complex than just that. You not only have to believe in yourself but you may be convinced that someone else has to believe too. You may have multiple obligations completed unrelated to your dream. You may not even know where or how to start. Like all things, your first decision is the decision to start, but begin with the commitment and promise you know you can adhere to. Set some goals, minimums, and parameters then start the clock. The first step to successfully doing almost anything is preparation. You must have a real understanding of the process. If you want to run a marathon, you have to know what it takes to go from a novice jogger to a real marathon runner. No one wakes up one morning, signs up for a 10k, and makes it through without fainting a few k's in or landing themselves in the nearest ER. First and foremost, you need to know what it takes to complete a 10k. You have to do the research and you have to do the prep-work -train for it. You need to learn and understand the kind work you need put in before the race to prepare your mind and your body to complete your task. With every and anything you set out to do, you need to understand that there is a process, and being successful requires research, training, and commitment before you even get started.

The second step is remaining focused and staying the course. Again, your commitment is a necessity to make it through this part of the process. Staying committed will draw you closer to your dream, but lacking commitment will undoubtedly stall you from achieving any goal you set out to do, have, or become. Simply, invest in what you want. You can not expect for anyone to invest in you or your dream if you don't. I'm not just talking about money, even the time you commit to your dream is an investment. If you want to have a healthy relationship you have to know your partner and their needs, commit to the person you are with, and invest in your relationship through your actions. Every goal, every dream follows the same philosophy.

The third step is to do the work. Everyone's heard of 'crawling before you walk' -that's this step. You may not crawl, you could take leaps, but either way you put it, you know this is not something that happens overnight. If you want to be a doctor, you have to follow the steps it takes to become one: get your bachelors, take the MCAT, go to med-school, do a residency. You already know this process is going to take a minimum of 7 years because you have done the research, but if you're committed to the process, you will stay the course, do the work, and become a doctor. The time between setting the goal or acknowledging the dream is there to prepare you to have it. The work is to teach you how to hold on to it. Everything worth having takes work, and you truly get out what you put in.
