50 Shades of Awesomeness!

While somewhat reluctant, (solely based on my typical taste in genre being non-romance and anti-fad reading) I decided to give the 50 Shades of Grey Trilogy a try. 50 Shades of Grey depicts a fantastically, sloppy, unconventional relationship, an intense power struggle between the couple, and their incredibly jaw-dropping, passionately, intoxicating chemistry. The source of their fears, fights, and drama is completely unimaginable and equally overwhelming for both parties. The baggage of the past is constantly present and terribly heavy, but their extraordinary physical connection provides a welcomed distraction that often unleashes steamy, blush-worthy performances throughout. There is very little left to the imagination as the author gives a vividly explicit description of their sexual exploits. (I have no idea how they're going to make the movie.) At the heart of this tale, both characters are struggling to determine the purpose they serve in each other's lives (if they are the cause or the cure) and how to sustain this relationship as well as their individual happiness.

The relationship between this couple begins unexpectedly, shadowed by their uncertainty, and complicated by their self-esteem issues, but despite their many differences, setbacks, and dreadful circumstances, they are determined to be together. You witness their awkward beginning morph into an unbreakable bond that leads them down paths of growth, acceptance, and understanding of themselves and one another. You also witness them trying to understand each other, learn from each other, and challenge each other in the best ways to become a better partner. While they attempt to accustom themselves to the idea of trusting, relying, and submitting to another person's power/will, their inability or unwillingness to give up control is a major obstacle for them to overcome. Unfortunately, at times they also find themselves more broken, damaged, vulnerable, and burdened with demons from the past. They anxiously ride a wave of uncharted territory full of emotional, spiritual, and physical bliss and torture while struggling to find their happy median. 50 Shades Freed should be called 50 Shades of Liberation! It is packaged beautifully with suspense, drama, action, danger, and of course, romance. The fabulous finale is laced with fun, laughs, tears, joy and pain. No stone is left unturned, and we are fully rewarded with long-awaited answers and compelling revelations.
This series is nothing short of pure, unadulterated awesomeness. I know this trilogy has been flagged with unsavory descriptions like "mommy-porn", but this is much deeper than the exceedingly detailed sexual encounters and props. For starters, it's not just written in first person, but first person with the opinions and objections from the head and the pelvis, giving us a remarkably informative, 3-D perspective. What I love most about this trilogy is the complexity of their relationship and their tenacity. No matter how colossal the issue may seem to be, they refuse to give up on each other, which is absolutely incredible given the circumstances. Everyone has experienced a relationship that came littered with drama, and certainly, everyone wants a relationship with love that runs soul-deep, powered by an unexplainable magnetic pull, while remaining ever-so determined to push pass your issues despite their enormity, and live with a single goal of making your companion happy and having that feeling be beautifully mutual. From start to finish, this trilogy is tangled with pain (both good and bad), confusion, suspense, drama, and a number of revelations that bring the couple closer and make them stronger than ever on every level: emotionally, spiritually, intimately and individually. After accompanying them on this journey, you will find yourself most definitely, TEAM 50.
