Ante Up

This month can be everything you need it to be when you ante up- not in presents but presence. Intentionally show up, donate, help a friend, or simply find a small way to sprinkle more kindness in the world. You will undoubtedly feel your heart grow as the Grinch reminds us each year; your smile alone could brighten someone else's day. Giving, loving, and sharing with others is not only a gift for the receiver but for the giver as well. Once you decide to carve out time for yourself and begin to analyze how you usually spend your time, you really see how much of your daily agenda is filled with all of the things and people that you put above and before yourself. Children aside, you can feel guilty choosing you and put yourself on the back burner indefinitely. This coming year calls for a fresh start, perspective, and posture on your standing on your own totem pole. It will require a lot of new disciplines. You will need to distance yourself from your neediest friends and family. You will need to slow down, minimize, or take a break from the messiness, chaos, and drama other people bring to you from their lives. You will need to make a conscious effort to avoid overexertion. Your newfound, grade A commitment to remember you will require that you stop allowing yourself to ignore your own needs to fulfill the demands of those around you. Relax. There is no rush. There is nothing so pressing that you cannot just be, today. If you so choose, you can be happy with the life you are living right now. At this very moment, you can choose to count your blessings more than your problems. You can choose to embrace the warmth of the morning sunrise, the tickle of the chilled rain soaking your skin in the thunderstorm, or the graze of the summer's breeze across your skin at the day's end.
